For the last week or so I have spent all of my time glued to my desk, an unusual occurrence I know. But for a very good reason. I have been working on re-vamping my business.
The newly re-named The Usual Fayre is a handmade jewellery business. I make all of the pieces myself, often using upcycled materials like beads and chains, so it’s quite eco-friendly in that sense. Bracelets are the easiest to make, so I have loads of those hanging about in storage. It has been noted however, that I tend to unconsciously favour smaller wrists, something I am working on adjusting.
This past week I have been focusing on designing a logo and banner, working closely with a local artist or two. I decided to start with a mascot. What kind of character would summaries myself and what I do? Well, I’m often told that I am rather cat-like and I’m rather fond of the creatures owning one of the dopey creatures myself, but that doesn’t say anything about jewellery… Oh, I know! A Magpie! Stealer of all things shiny! Perfect.
When I started making jewellery in 2013, I quickly bought into the business idea. The only problem? I have NO idea how to run a business. I work mostly from my Facebook page The Usual Fayre. I’m also very unsure of how to run this. It’s all very new to me. Despite it having been up since 2013 I didn’t update or use my Facebook page very often but now that’s all a changin’!
I had been meaning to work on my page for a while but now I have a very good reason to do so; The Alternate Market. This September my good friends over at The Haberdash (click here to visit them) are holding a Steampunk and alternate market in Preston. There is no entry fee and it is a great opportunity to come and check out various stalls including (but not limited to) clothing, illustrations and jewellery.
